SULKY® Stick 'n Stitch combines the convenience of a pressure-sensitive adhesive with the flexibility of a water-soluble stabilizer. It is a printable, temporary self-adhesive stabilizer, similar to fabric, ideal for getting your hand embroidery, punch needle, cross-stitch, quilting, or other patterns onto your project fabric. Stick 'n Stitch can also be used as a topper or backing, which looks, feels, and acts like fabric during embroidery – or when used as a design pattern. Perfect for any reversible project, because once rinsed, no stabilizer remains on either side! All Sulky stabilizers are acid-free and lead-free.

Stick 'n Stitch is ideal for hand embroidery, cross-stitch, punch needle, and quilting. Print or copy your pattern onto a Stick 'n Stitch sheet, remove the backing, stick it onto your fabric, and sew, then rinse with water when you're done!

Print a pattern on Stick 'n Stitch by placing the pattern in a photocopier (or you can print a pattern from your computer on your laser or inkjet printer) and use the lightest (draft) setting on your printer.

Placement Stickers: These printable sheets can also be used to achieve perfect machine embroidery placement. Print our PDF placement stickers on the fabric side of the stabilizer, then cut out a circle to use on the right side of the fabric to indicate the desired embroidery center. Embroider the pattern, then remove the stabilizer with water (if the fabric can withstand water); or remove the stabilizer before starting the embroidery.

Usage Tips

1. Print on
Print on the fabric-like side. Therefore, when inserting, ensure it is placed correctly in the paper tray.
Use a light (draft) setting on your printer or copier to print your patterns on Stick n Stitch (print the pattern in gray instead of deep black), then peel off the release sheet and smooth the printed pattern in place for hand embroidery, applique, needlework, machine or hand quilting, or any other machine or handwork that requires following a drawing or pattern.
Note: since printers and inks vary, always perform a test to ensure your ink does not bleed and that it completely washes away with Stick n Stitch. If your printer or copier ink bleeds, use another machine. Some copiers or printers may prefer Stick n Stitch to be fed one sheet at a time.

2. Use it as a design pattern.
Hand trace the pattern onto Stick n Stitch using a permanent ink marker or water-soluble marker so you can sew through Stick n Stitch and have a washable pattern to follow on your fabric. Remove the release sheet and smooth the printed or traced stabilizer, sticky side down, onto the right side of the fabric. Ideal for transferring a pattern for machine quilting, monogramming, thread sketching, or as a pattern for computerized machine embroidery; as well as for all craft creations.

BONUS TIP:
Stick n Stitch will help you sew better because it features a slight grid pattern, which you can use to space your stitches more evenly. You can also move or reposition your subject if you don't like the original placement.
Fabric manufacturers use different finishes and/or sizes, some of which may prevent Stick n Stitch from adhering. If this happens, first soak your fabric to remove the finish and/or sizing; dry and use.

3. Use as a stabilizer
Stick n Stitch under and/or on the fabric or pattern area to be sewn for buttonholes, decorative edge stitching, thread and yarn scarves, and reversible computerized embroidery such as towels, scarves, and sheer fabrics (or whenever you want both sides to look as nice as the front).

For small items that cannot be hooped for embroidery (like socks), hoop the Stick n Stitch (with the release sheet facing up), notch the release sheet and remove it from inside the hoop, then smooth the small item onto the sticky side of the stabilizer exposed inside the hoop.

When the fabric needs a topper to prevent stitches from sinking into the knit or nap, you can economically cut the Stick n Stitch slightly larger than the pattern area and smooth it over the fabric.

4. Fabric scarves and collage
For fabric scarves and collage, build your scarf on a single layer, positioning the threads, yarns, and/or pieces on top. Cover with a second layer to allow the presser foot to glide smoothly over your collage without snagging the threads. Or, if more visibility is desired, cover with a layer of regular, lightweight SULKY® SOLVY. (Be sure to cover any exposed adhesive before sewing over it.)

5. Removal is easy
once sewing is complete. Carefully trim away the excess Stick n Stitch.
Any remaining Sticky Fabri-Solvy can be removed by immersing and agitating the project in warm water for 2 to 3 minutes
OR by removing the stabilizer under running water.
Rinse thoroughly. Air dry on a towel or in the dryer, if your project allows. If stiffness remains after drying, simply repeat the process.
